Witches were known as lamiae throughout the Middle Ages.
- Lamiae merged the heinous traits of the strix and succubus, creeping up on sleeping men and hypnotizing them with sexual dreams while draining their blood and devouring their flesh.
- Lamia was a term used in the nineteenth century to describe a femme fatale with seductive enchantment abilities.
