This Russian term has a wide range of meanings and may refer to any, all, or none of the following:
• Grandma, or any other word for a grandma, or any older lady
• a midwife
• any woman, but generally a married one
• a witch or magical practitioner
It may be a word of fondness and respect, or it may be a derogatory phrase.
