Envoûtement is a French term sometimes mistranslated as "bewitchment," although it really refers to image magic, such as the use of dolls or images in a magical manner.
Envoûtement is derived from the Middle Latin invultuor, which means "a magician who produces a desire."
What exactly is a voult?
“Voult” is derived from the Latin voltus, which means “face,” and hence denotes a person's image.
