Candomble is an Afro-Brazilian spiritual tradition that was formerly illegal and was only performed secretly.
However, it is now recognized as one of Brazil's official faiths, with tens of thousands of temples and worshippers from various socioeconomic groups and ethnic origins or terreiros.
According to recent studies, some two million Brazilians have proclaimed Candomble to be their religion, however many more follow it with other religions.
